Smørrebrød is that classic Danish cuisine that no one can say (I’ve since found out it’s ‘SMUHR–bruth’) but everyone wants to try. And where better to sample this classic Danish dish, than in classically Danish-designed Aamanns. Awash with simple white hues and light wooden furnishings, this scandi sanctuary is both simple and clean, yet reassuringly homely.
The true design feat here though is, quite rightly, in the food itself. An open sandwich must naturally have an element of presentation, but Aamans’s little slabs of activity are beautiful beyond anything else labelled simply as a ‘sandwich’. Forget your eggs and cress, the carefully selected menu features beef tartare, smoked salmon and marinated veal. For those looking for a true Danish experience, however, give the herring a try. You won’t regret it.
